If you come by car:


Coming from Brussels (E40),

You take the the direction of Luik-Leuven. At the jonction with the A2 – E314, you follow Genk-Hasselt-Leuven. You leave the highway at the very first exit, which is Leuven Centrum (exit 15). You are now on road nr 264.

At the third crossing with traffic lights, continue straight through,under the flyover bridge,this takes you along Kapucijnenvoer.

After the roundabout take the 1st street on the right ‘Janseniusstraat’. Continue until you come to a Y junction – go left over the bridge (Indicated as a Cul de Sac). The Institute Car Park is on your right (free of charge. ).Ring the bell and the receptionist will open the gate for you.Walk through the garden towards the building (door in corner) (If this door is not open, go back out of the car park, turn left, follow the street until you reach the front door.)

Note: you can NOT reach the parking if you follow Minderbroederstraat,P.Damiaanstraat by car (road is blocked)


Coming from Mechelen (N26),you pass the slip road for the A2-E314. At that point, you count the third traffic lights, where you go right in the direction of Tervuren-Brussel. You are now on the "kleine ring" (small circular highway) R23. After the first traffic lights, you keep to your right in order to NOT cross the bridge.Turn left under the bridge, this takes you along Kapucijnenvoer. After the roundabout take the 1st street on the right ‘Janseniusstraat’. Continue until you come to a Y junction – go left over the bridge (Indicated as a Cul de Sac). The Institute Car Park is on your right (free of charge. ).Ring the bell and the receptionist will open the gate for you.Walk through the garden towards the building (door in corner) (If this door is not open, go back out of the car park, turn left, follow the street until you reach the front door.)

Coming from Aarschot/Hasselt (A2 – E314), you take exit nr. 18 (Leuven-Mechelen-Herent). At the traffic lights, you turn left. You pass the next two lights and you take the "kleine ring" (small circular highway) on your right. Be careful, this is a short slip road !! You pass the traffic lights, keep to your right in order to NOT cross the bridge.Turn left under the bridge, this takes you along Kapucijnenvoer. After the roundabout take the 1st street on the right ‘Janseniusstraat’. Continue until you come to a Y junction – go left over the bridge (Indicated as a Cul de Sac). If you come by public transport:

Leuven is easy to reach by train from all parts of the country.

Take a bus :

Take a bus from the Railway Station to the Institute - Bus number 2

Every 15 minutes ( in rush hour: 7-9 am, 4-7 pm, every 8 minutes)

* Get off at Sint Michielskerk (St Michael’s Church)

* Walk down Sint Antoniusberg and arrive on Pater Damiaanplein.

* In the square you take the street in the left corner. This is Janseniusstraat. On your left is the Louvain Institute for Ireland in Europe

Walking : (25 min)

* Take Bondgenotenlaan (the big shopping street) untill you see St Peter’s Cathedral in Grote Markt

* In Grote Markt, turn left to Oude Markt

* In Oude Markt, turn right to Parijsstraat.

* Follow Parijsstraat, until you come to Pater Damiaanplein (square on your right). In the square you take the street in the left corner (near the building “Paridaens”). This is Janseniusstraat. On your left is the Louvain Institute for Ireland in Europe
